How To Bribe Your Customers For Clicks

In today's economy of attention, you have to fight kicking and screaming to get eyeballs first and then revenue after.

One of the smartest and simplest tactics I've seen recently is a local Korean fried chicken joint that used a basket of fries to fuel their entire local SEO strategy.

Here’s how they did it—and how you can do the same.

The Setup: A Google Review Event

On each table, the restaurant placed a sleek card inviting customers to:

  1. Search for the restaurant on Google Maps

  2. Leave a 5-star review, including two key phrases like:

    • “Chicking”

    • “Fried Chicken”

    • A specific menu item

  3. Show the staff their review

  4. Receive a plate of assorted fries—free

At first glance, it looks like a simple customer appreciation promo. But under the hood? It's a well-oiled, hyper-targeted local SEO campaign. Google Maps is the new battleground for SEO because voice-to-text on Google dumps to that interface by default. If you're savvy on getting people to look you up and make logical connections with the words you want to be measured with, you win.. Here's their results for when I search for "Fried Chicken"

Why This Works

Boosts Google Ranking

Every new, keyword-rich review acts like a signal to Google. It says, “Hey, this place is loved—and it serves amazing fried chicken.” Over time, this improves the restaurant’s visibility in local search results. Words matter! Using the specific words of fried chicken together with Chicking repeatedly builds a strong connection between them.

Builds Trust and Social Proof

5-star reviews stacked with keywords not only improve search rankings—they also convert browsers into buyers. When potential customers read glowing reviews from real people, they’re more likely to visit.

Drives Brand & Product Awareness

By prompting users to mention Chicking and specific menu items, the business strengthens its brand identity and helps search engines associate those keywords with the restaurant.

The ROI on Fries

This kind of campaign is low-cost and high-impact:

  • Cost: ~$2 worth of fries that sell for $6 on the menu.

  • Reward: Increased foot traffic, online visibility, and potentially hundreds of dollars in future sales from new customers.

That’s marketing with real ROI—and it’s trackable.
